The Vision Improvement Program
We consistently improve vision with The Vision Improvement Program — an effective treatment for Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, Retinitis Pigmentosa, and many other common eye problems. It is a proactive, hands-on treatment protocol for increasing and maintaining vision, eye health, overall health and wellbeing. Gail Brent specializes in the treatment of degenerative eye disease, using the Micro Acupuncture and the AcuNova acupuncture protocols. She offers this along with Chinese herbal medicine, eye exercises, nutritional supplements, specific nutritional recommendations, techniques for stress reduction, qigong exercises, and lifestyle improvements. She also includes microcurrent stimulation when appropriate. These treatments are designed to stimulate and direct the qi (chi), blood, oxygen, nutrients and increase circulation to the eyes, in order to create an optimal environment for the eyes to heal. We also address the underlying health issues that are at the root of these eye disorders, in accordance with Chinese medicine.
The Vision Improvement Program from the Health and Vision Acupuncture center addresses various medically diagnosed eye conditions. We help with the most commonly treated disorders, including:
Treatment Protocols: We Use Acupuncture to Improve Vision
Gail Brent provides The Vision Improvement Program over the course of one or two weeks, with 12 treatments each week. She gives three treatments a day, with one to two hour intervals, Monday through Thursday. At the initial treatment, Gail takes various vision tests to establish a baseline status of the vision. The patient completes an in-depth health history which we then discuss, and this also provides an opportunity for the patient to ask Gail any questions.
We encourage our patients to be well-informed, so that they know what to expect and what will be needed for ongoing improvement and maintenance. At the end of each week, Gail repeats the vision tests and compares these to the first tests to see how the patient is responding to the acupuncture treatments to improve vision.
Gail gives instructions on specific nutritional, vitamin and mineral supplements needed for the health and healing of the eyes and underlying conditions, along with resources for lifestyle improvement and stress reduction counseling. She also introduces eye exercises to improve vision as well as qigong exercises that help the eyes and body establish and maintain normal qi and blood flow. Taken together, the various components of the Vision Improvement Program support the success of the treatments.
More than 80% of our patients respond successfully to acupuncture treatments to improve vision, which includes the slowing/stopping of degeneration.
Patients need to understand that these treatments are not a cure. This program requires determination and dedication from both the patient and the acupuncturist, working together to obtain the best results possible. You will need to take an active role to improve vision and for your overall health.
Some of you will experience significant changes right away, while for others, results take more time. Your body, mind, and overall well-being may be affected by other health issues, medications, stress, nutrition and lifestyle. These factors are likely to impact the eyes and also influence the effectiveness of the treatments. Once your vision has been optimized, degenerative eye conditions require ongoing maintenance.
Each patient’s condition and response to treatment is unique, so the frequency of follow-up maintenance treatments is determined by the specifics of your condition. In general, you will need to return three to four times for maintenance treatments during the first year. After the first year, maintenance generally requires visits twice annually, or as often as recommended by your practitioner based on your specific condition.
